🔥 Carney Takes a Shot at Poilievre — and Conservatives Aren’t Laughing
Prime Minister Mark Carney’s latest clash with Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre in Question Period is getting plenty of attention — especially from right-leaning commentators who say Carney crossed the line from clever to arrogant.
Carney opened with what sounded like a compliment.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Leader of the Opposition on his 20th anniversary in the House of Commons,” Carney said. “I’ve been here for a little more than a year.”
Then came the punch.
After touting his government’s push to accelerate major projects across Canada, Carney declared:
“We will build Canada strong. They will have an opportunity to join us, and he will have an opportunity to do something for the first time in two decades.”
Ouch.
That final line lit the fuse.
Critics on the right quickly blasted Carney’s remark as arrogant and dismissive — a swipe suggesting Poilievre has accomplished little during his 20 years in Parliament.
But there’s another side to this political slugfest.
Poilievre has never exactly tiptoed around his opponents. He’s built a reputation for sharp attacks and memorable one-liners of his own, including describing Carney — a Harvard graduate and former central banker — as “badly educated on economics.”
So when the political gloves come off, they come off for both sides.
If you’re going to dish it out, you’d better be ready to take it.
And Pierre Poilievre has never been shy about dishing it out.
