CHINESE HUMANOID ROBOT has beaten USAIN BOLT's 100m WORLD RECORD. The robot, named LIGHTNING and developed by Chinese smartphone manufacturer HONOR, completed a 100-metre test run in 9.32 seconds in Beijing.

That time is 0.26 seconds faster than BOLT's legendary 9.58-second world record, set at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin. LIGHTNING reached a peak speed of 14.5 metres per second during the test ahead of the WORLD HUMANOID ROBOT GAMES.

LIGHTNING had already won the Beijing half marathon in April, completing the 21-kilometre course in 50 minutes and 26 seconds. Engineers subsequently lengthened its legs by 10 centimetres ahead of the robot games.
