American Idol Voters Got It Wrong Again!

Kris Allen Crowned The New 'American Idol'

Kris appeared shocked as he learned the news, delivered by show host Ryan Seacrest, and he struggled to find words to express himself.

"Are you serious? Are you friggin' serious? It feels good man, but Adam deserves this. I'm sorry," Kris said as he looked around wide-eyed. "I don't even know what to feel right now. This is crazy. Thank you so much."

Just under 100 million votes -- a new world record according to "Idol" -- were cast on Tuesday night, but in the end, it was 23-year-old Kris Allen, from Conway, Arkansas who walked home with the title of the Season 8 "American Idol."

Ken Levine

Wow! What an upset! Kris Allen won. The All-American fresh-faced boy next door beat a theatrical guy who wore leather and eyeliner. Who knew??? This country is not yet ready to crown a young man who looks like Liza Minnelli their next American Idol. Not that Kris didn't deserve it but clearly Adam was the more interesting, original choice. And I suspect will have the greater career (whatever that means). They could both be stars or in five years one could open for the other at Magic Mountain.

Still, it was Adam who jump-started the series. He's the one everybody was talking about, he's the reason you watched every week. My guess is all those tweenage girls who were so shattered last year when David Archeletta lost vowed they would never let that happen again. Hell hath no fury like a middle schooler with a Twitter account!

Of course the real winner here is American Idol. People will be talking about this for days.

Kris Allen crowned American Idol 2009

American Idol's dark horse contestant, Kris Allen, surprised everyone, including himself, by taking this year's American Idol trophy. "Adam should have won," Kris told Ryan when he was handed the trophy. He then promptly tried to push it over to Adam, and was instead cued to sing "No Boundaries." Kris seemed shocked as he stumbled around the stage, followed by the season's other twelve finalists.

Kris is the eighth winner of American Idol, following Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, and, most recently, David Cook. He is now guaranteed a recording contract with 19 records.

Kris and Adam are currently throwing their support behind each other. "Kris is a great guy and deserves nothing by the best," Adam said afterwards. "I'm totally happy for him."

When asked about Adam, Kris stated, "You can't compare us, we're totally different, but we have a great relationship. I'm rooting for him. I'll be there to buy his CD."

With close to 100 million votes coming in for this year's finale, both artists are guaranteed to have successful careers. They kick off with the American Idol tour this summer, stopping in 50 cities.
